Skirt Love

Today, I got nothing accomplished at work. I didn't get there until late morning and then I had meetings most of the afternoon. I have no idea how I will ever get anything done if I keep having meetings.

Anyway, this post is all about the outfit. When I started getting ready this morning, I couldn't keep my eyes off of this skirt.

Sorry for the wrinkles.

I looked at other outfits, but none of them made me smile. I really wanted to save this skirt for another time, but I decided not to wait. I'm not sure how much I really like the skirt itself. I for sure love the fabric and the pockets.

I didn't really wear these shoes today as they aren't lab appropriate.
These heels are great! I don't know if you all remember when I got a box full of shoes. These were one of the pairs that I got. I happened upon UrbanOG.com not too long ago, and it's pretty much the only place I shop for shoes online. They have awesome shoes for a great price.

My Time With Rae

A couple of weeks ago I posted about my time with Rae, but it got lost during the changes on Blogger, so here it is again.*

I know it's been a while since I said I would let you all know my opinion of Rae cosmetics as I said here. I have taken my time forming my opinion about Rae cosmetics. Here's a timeline of my experiment.

Wednesday, April 20--I started using Rae. Only the powder foundation. I started seeing little red bumps.
Friday, April 22--I broke out all over my forehead. This is so not normal for me.
Saturday, April 23--I did not wear any make-up.

Monday, April 25--I wore the liquid foundation.
Tuesday, April 26--I wore the liquid foundation again. I broke out even more on my forehead and some on my cheeks.
Wednesday, April 27--I wore my old powder foundation.
Thursday, April 28--I didn't wear any make-up through the weekend.

Monday, May 2--I wore Rae powder foundation again. I broke out again.
Tuesday, May 3--I went back to wearing my old foundation.

This is the end of my experiment. My face needs a break from all the breaking out.

First, let me say how much I loved Rae cosmetics. I loved the coverage I got while using them. I loved the staying power of Rae. I never had to reapply anything, not even my blush (which wasn't Rae). Sadly, I can't wear Rae cosmetics. I have very sensitive skin. I break out easily from the strangest things. Let me be clear on this. I'm not saying Rae cosmetics are bad. I'm just saying they aren't for me.

I know some of you may think I broke out, because I don't always take off my make-up. This is not true. I broke out during the day the first time I applied Rae.

*This isn't exactly as it was originally posted, but it is as close as I can remember.

Running From The Mosquitos

Why is choosing an outfit, so difficult some days and others it's just like breathing? I couldn't decide what to wear this morning. I started off with my new pink skirt and a long sleeve pink linen shirt. Then, a green short sleeve shirt. I wasn't quite feeling that outfit, so I changed the skirt to a grey one and went back to the pink shirt. That didn't work out, so I tried an aqua button down. I liked that, but I didn't really want to wear that shirt. I tried a purple tank with the grey skirt, but I didn't like that combination. I changed skirts again. This outfit seemed not so bad, so I threw on a cardigan. No. I tried another cardigan. Finally, I was satisfied.

I didn't put anything back in the closet, but the hubs was nice enough to hang everything back up for me. And he put away all my shoes. Thanks, hubs.

I'm killing one of the many mosquitos that were biting me.

Running from the mosquitos.

The hubs and I were trying to take photos when I was attacked by mosquitos. I would have had more photos and possibly better ones, but I couldn't stand it anymore. So this is it.

Hope you all had a great weekend. I was able to accomplish some things on my list. I'm hoping to have my list completed by next weekend. Just in time for me to leave. I've been waiting to go to the Austin Renegade Fair, but I forgot about it. Then, I was going to go Sunday, but I had some things I had to do instead. Life always gets in the way of fun things.

I can't believe that I only have 5 days of work left before I'm off for 2.5 weeks. I have so much to do at work, before I take off. I'll do my best.

Swimming In Green

I've always been told that navy blue looks good on me. When I noticed that I got more compliments on the days I wore navy, I decided that I would buy more navy. That is when I started taking notice of when I got compliments and started really noticing how I looked in a particular color. Before this, I would wear whatever I wanted and never really cared how it looked on me.

I know I've said it before, but cream is not a color for me. It makes me even more pale than I already am. For instance, today I was wearing a cream colored sweater at work and I got asked if I was feeling ok. Did I feel sick? What's wrong? Wow! The difference a color can make.

I have now discovered another color that creates lots of compliments. Green. I cleaned out my armoire this past weekend and I found this "dress" shoved inside. I bought it just before the end of last summer and only wore it once. I didn't care that it was a swim cover-up; I wanted to wear it yesterday. So....

First, I added a cami.

Then, I added a necklace.

It still felt like a swim cover-up, so I added a belt.

And of course a pair of wedges.

Cover-up (dress): Mossimo via Target
Cami: Ann Taylor
Shoes: Jellypop (I can't remember where I got them)
Necklace: I can't remember
Belt: I ripped it off of this dress
Earrings: Gifted (these are my favorite if you haven't noticed)

The next time I find anything this shade of green I will have to buy it. The hubs thinks it is Celtics Green (Boston's basketball team for those of you who don't know).

What's your best/favorite color?

Lollipop Flowers

I wanted to take photos today, but my head was pounding and the hubs is sick. So, instead I thought I would show you the skirt I'm working on. I have had some difficulties making it. I didn't have a pattern so, I am just winging it. I have never made clothing with pockets and these are NOT easy, especially without a pattern. I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to make this skirt. I should have used one of the patterns I do have. I didn't do that though because I have a skirt that I really like the fit of and wanted to copy that same style.

Here's one of the pockets.

Have I mentioned that I don't sew very much? Well, not clothes that is. Normally, I make curtains, pillows, or blankets. This is way out of my comfort zone. I'm excited about finishing and wearing my creation.

I really love this fabric. It reminds me of lollipops. I can't wait to wear it! I just hope the skirt looks right when I'm done.

Mushrooms

I wore another button down yesterday. I'm thinking about wearing button downs the rest of the week. Hmmm... I love this mushroom shirt! So very cute and nerdy, especially after working with fungi the past few years.

Was I about to clap? Or sneeze? Or describing something?

Cami: Charlotte Russe
Shirt: J.Crew (a couple of years ago)
Jeans: COH
Shoes: Naturalizer via Outlet Store
Earrings: Gifted

I really wanted to wear shorts yesterday, but I'm training at work and wearing shorts in the lab is not necessarily a good idea. On a good note, it rained a little Tuesday evening, so it was a little cooler than it has been, so jeans were tolerable.

I need to figure out how to take pictures while I'm in Baltimore. I won't have the hubs there to take my photos. He originally planned to go with me, but he didn't get in to the writing residency that he applied to, so he is attending his own residency at home. Two weeks of nothing but writing. I'm sure he will take naps with the cats while I'm gone. My poor kitty! I just realized that my cat, Jackie, will have to be without me for 2 weeks. She hates it when I'm out late. I don't know how she is going to handle weeks without me. I need to f-o-c-u-s.

Does anyone have advice on taking your own photos? I would love to hear any tips you might have.

Teacher, Teacher

I'm so sorry for being absent for the last week. Please forgive me. I am now feeling much better! Last week was rough with me being sick. I had so much to do, but couldn't find the energy to get it done. I have filled out tons of paperwork for school. I can't believe I got in! I was already giving up on hearing anything. I still need to get a plane ticket.

Here is what I wore yesterday. I wanted to post these yesterday, but I fell asleep after dinner. Pretty sad, huh? Anyway, I chose this outfit because I love the look of a button down. I wasn't really going for the teacher look, but hey. It's not bad, except I look really short.

I hope you all are having a good week so far. This Friday is the 13th! I think I will watch some scary movies.

I Think My Dream Is Coming True

I am on the mend! The new antibiotic is working very well. I am feeling a lot better and it's only been three days.

I don't know how many of you having been with me since the beginning of Sable & Sage. When I started Sable & Sage, I was studying to take the GRE. I took it and did well. Then, I applied to graduate school three months ago. I have been waiting to hear wether I've been accepted or not. The program starts the second week of June. It is 80% online and 20% in the classroom. The classroom just happens to be in Baltimore, MD. I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO JOHNS HOPKINS!!! I will be working on my Master's in Public Health.

I decided to wear something that reflected how happy I am.

My co-workers said I was very sparkly today.

Can you believe I got these for $10?

Shirt: Western Denim Bank via Cream Vintage
Jeans: Paige via Goodwill
Boots: Splash via a now closed Austin boutique
Earrings: Gifted

When I saw this shirt last summer, I knew I had to have it. It's the second yellow piece of clothing I own (yellow just isn't my color, but I love it). I have never owned cowboy boots in my life, that is until I found these great boots. I picked these up at a shop in Austin that is no longer in business.

I Hope I Make It

I've only managed to accomplish one thing in the last 5 days and I will show you in a bit. Some of you may be wondering were I've been. Well, on Tuesday I had a sore throat, on Wednesday I just felt bad, and Thursday was the end. I went to the doctor and he said I had bronchitis. Wow! That hit me fast. All I did on Thursday and Friday was lay in bed or on the sofa. Friday is when the coughing hit. Saturday wasn't any better. And Sunday, I just had more difficulty breathing. Today, I am not any better. Called the doctor and he sent me for an x-ray. Luckily, there was no sign of pneumonia. He gave me another antibiotic in addition to the one I'm already taking and the inhaler I've been using. So, that's my story.

I was so exhausted on Sunday, but I did manage to make one of the aprons I mentioned here. It took me almost all day. I had to keep taking breaks. I wanted to take pictures with me wearing my new apron, but I look horrible and didn't want my picture taken today. Here is my apron!

I love it! It makes me want to cook something. I will have to wait until I'm well to wear it in the kitchen. I think the hubs can wait for me to cook a tasty dessert. If you are wondering, he does most of the cooking. I always tell everyone that I taught him how to cook and then I stopped cooking. It's been great!

I promise to get back to reading all your blogs. I'm just taking it slow. I hope this week gets better than it has started out. Happy Monday, Everyone!
